A family favourite for 30 years. Contains 4 ingredients with a generous amount of butter adding a rich flavour and texture to the scone.
Ingredients
- 3 cup self-raising flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 5 tbs butter
- 1 cup milk
Method

Step 1Sift flour and salt into a bowl.

Step 2Rub in butter with tips of fingers until mixture is a fine soft crumble.

Step 3Make a well in the centre of bowl and stir in milk with a knife to form a soft dough.

Step 4Turn onto a floured surface and knead lightly.

Step 5Pat dough gently to a 2 cm thickness and cut out with a floured scone cutter.

Step 6Place on a ungreased scone tray and brush lightly with milk.

Step 7Bake at 200C for 15-20 minutes.

Step 8Turn out into a tea towel lined dish and cover and wrap with another tea towel.

Step 9Leave for 5 minutes or until cold.

Step 10Serve with jam and cream or butter if preferred
Recipe Notes
Best eaten the same day but they do taste good for up to 3 days. Suitable to freeze.
