Ingredients

  • 3 cup self-raising flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 5 tbs butter
  • 1 cup milk

Method

  • Step 1
    Sift flour and salt into a bowl.
    Old-Fashioned Butter Scones
  • Step 2
    Rub in butter with tips of fingers until mixture is a fine soft crumble.
  • Step 3
    Make a well in the centre of bowl and stir in milk with a knife to form a soft dough.
  • Step 4
    Turn onto a floured surface and knead lightly.
  • Step 5
    Pat dough gently to a 2 cm thickness and cut out with a floured scone cutter.
  • Step 6
    Place on a ungreased scone tray and brush lightly with milk.
  • Step 7
    Bake at 200C for 15-20 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Turn out into a tea towel lined dish and cover and wrap with another tea towel.
  • Step 9
    Leave for 5 minutes or until cold.
  • Step 10
    Serve with jam and cream or butter if preferred
Recipe Notes

Best eaten the same day but they do taste good for up to 3 days. Suitable to freeze.
