Ingredients

  • 5 potatoes medium peeled
  • 1 tbs oil
  • 500 g beef mince
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbs tomato sauce
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper
  • 60 g margarine
  • 1/4 cup plain flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup cheese grated
  • 250 g canned mushroom
  • 30 g margarine *extra

Method

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 190C. Peel potatoes, cut into thin slices and place in a bowl with water.

  • Step 2
    Heat oil in frying pan, add mince, onion, sauces, salt and pepper. Brown mince and set aside.
  • Step 3
    Melt margarine in a saucepan and add flour. Blend until smooth.
  • Step 4
    Gradually add milk and stir continuously until a thick sauce is made. Reduce heat and stir in cheese. Remove from heat.
  • Step 5
    Line a casserole dish with half the potato slices, pour in the mince mixture and top with mushrooms.
  • Step 6
    Pour cheese sauce over mixture and top with remaining potatoes.
  • Step 7
    Dot casserole with extra margarine and place in oven for 30-40 minutes until browned and potatoes are tender.

Recipe Notes

A larger can of mushrooms can be added. I used canned mushrooms in butter sauce.
