A full flavoured beef stroganoff.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbs oil
  • 1 onion chopped large
  • 300 g mushrooms sliced
  • 350 g beef steak, cut into strips
  • 3 tbs plain flour
  • 1 1/3 cups reduced-salt chicken stock (liquid)
  • 3 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 3 tbs tomato puree
  • 1 tbs honey
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper *to taste
  • 3 tbs sour cream

Method

  • Step 1
    Place onions and mushrooms in a frying pan with oil and stirfry until soft. Remove from pan.
  • Step 2
    Coat meat with flour.
  • Step 3
    Brown beef in batches in same pan.
  • Step 4
    Return beef, mushrooms and onions to pan.
  • Step 5
    Add stock, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, tomato puree, honey, salt and pepper to frying pan and stir. Turn heat down and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 6
    Add sour cream and stir through, simmer for another 2 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Serve with mashed potato or mashed sweet potato and steamed green beans.

  • 1 frying pan
Recipe Notes

Use tomato puree or 1 tablespoon tomato paste.
