We used to make these for the roadhouse we owned a while back. They had the reputation of being the best for 1500 kilometres.
Ingredients
- 500 g beef mince
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 beef stock cube crumbled
- 2 tbs tomato sauce
- 2 tbs barbecue sauce
- 2 tsp garlic paste
- 20 ml port
- 1/4 cup plain flour
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1 tsp mixed herbs
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 carrot grated
- 1 tbs canola oil
Method

Step 1Mix all ingredients together well. If mix is too wet add a little more flour or some breadcrumbs.

Step 2Shape into hamburger patties and cook over medium heat in fry pan with oil.

Step 3Drain on paper towels before placing into buns with fillings of choice.
Recipe Notes
These quantities are approximate, I tend to throw in a bit of this and that and don't pay attention to how much I use.
You could possibly use 3 tablespoons each of tomato and barbecue sauce.
You can use port or red wine.
