This easy fruit cake makes an excellent Christmas gift. The recipe makes two 15 cm cakes. The hot syrup poured over when it comes out of the oven, makes it very moist and rich. - kotie

Recipe Notes
Substitute treacle or molasses for some or all of the golden syrup to get a darker, richer taste. I boil the syrup in the microwave for two minutes. Sherry, whisky or rum may be substituted for the brandy. Strong Earl Grey tea with a teaspoon of brandy or rum cake flavouring may be substituted for the alcohol.
