Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups self-raising flour sifted
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 30g butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1/3 cup milk

Caramel sauce

  • 30g butter
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Method

  • Step 1
    Place flour and salt into bowl, rub in butter and add sugar.
  • Step 2
    Add combined milk and vanilla, mix well.
    Caramel Dumplings
  • Step 3
    Caramel sauce: Combine all sauce ingredients in large saucepan and stir constantly until boiling. Reduce heat.
  • Step 4
    Drop tablespoons of dumpling dough into simmering sauce.
  • Step 5
    Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

Recipe Notes

The dumplings can be served with whipped cream or ice cream, but I think they taste great on their own!
