A classy and delicious dish made with leftover beef, moist and tender, it turns out this is worth creating leftovers for!
Ingredients
- 600 g cooked beef day-old diced
- 2 tbs butter
- 3 onion chopped
- 1 tbs plain flour
- 3/4 cups beef stock (liquid)
- 2 cup mashed potato
- 4 tbs butter melted
- 2 tbs fresh breadcrumbs
Method
-
Step 1Cook onions in 2 tablespoons of butter in frying pan until coloured nicely. Sprinkle flour over and moisten with splashes of stock. Cook for about 15 minutes.
-
Step 2Cool before mixing the beef in.
-
Step 3Grease a gratin dish and pour mixture in bottom and cover with potato and then cover potato with breadcrumbs.
-
Step 4Add tiny pieces of butter all over, or pour over melted butter to moisten.
-
Step 5Place in hot oven for 15 minutes or until browned to your liking.
Recipe Notes
If I think the beef is a little dry, I add 3/4 cup of tomato soup concentrate or tomato passata in the base of the baking dish. Add herbs if you choose, but go lightly. Use leftover boiled or braised beef.
