These are lovely with vegetables for a winter dinner meal. These are simliar to my late mum's recipe.
Ingredients
- 500 g beef mince
- 500 g sausage
- 1 brown onion chopped large peeled
- 1 tbs tomato sauce
- 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt and pepper *to taste
- 2 tsp mixed herbs
- 2 egg lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup plain flour
- 1 cup dried breadcrumbs
- 3 tbs tomato relish
- 1/2 cup plain flour to coat *extra
Sauce
- 450 g (pieces) canned pineapple reserve liquid
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbs cornflour
- 2 tbs soy sauce
Method

Step 1Place mince, sausage meat, onions, salt and pepper, tomato sauce, mixed herbs, Worcestershire sauce, fresh breadcrumbs, eggs and flour into a large bowl.

Step 2Combine and form into golf ball sized balls.

Step 3Roll in extra flour to stop them sticking.

Step 4Place canola oil in large preheated fry-pan.

Step 5Fry meatballs until well browned.

Step 6Place enough meatballs for the meal in a casserole dish, and freeze the remainder until required.

Step 7Add pineapple pieces.

Step 8Make the sauce by combining pineapple juice and remaining sauce ingredients.

Step 9Pour over meatballs and pineapple.

Step 10Bake for approximately 1 hour at 180C or until cooked through.

Recipe Notes
This mixture will make approximately 12-16 meatballs. Serve with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Sometimes I add cooked rice to the mixture, it goes that little further. You could also add brown onion gravy over the meatballs instead of the pineapple sauce.
