Ingredients

  • 2 tbs butter
  • 3 tbs plain flour
  • 1 L milk
  • 1 pinch nutmeg

Method

  • Step 1
    Melt butter in saucepan.
  • Step 2
    Slowly sprinkle flour into the butter stirring all the time.
  • Step 3
    Cook for 5 minutes, do not let brown.
  • Step 4
    Meanwhile, bring milk to the boil.
  • Step 5
    Once milk has boiled take both saucepans off the heat, add all the milk at once to flour mixture and beat vigorously with a whisk until all lumps have been removed.
  • Step 6
    Return saucepan to heat to keep warm and add salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Recipe Notes
Cheese and fresh herbs can be added. This makes around 3 layers in a lasagna.
