An apple and almond slice. This is best eaten on the day it is made.
Ingredients
- 125 g butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/4 cup plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 440 g canned pie apple
- 1/2 cup flaked almonds
- 1 tbs brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Method

Step 1Grease a 20 cm slice pan and line with baking paper. Cream butter and sugar, beat in egg.

Step 2Combine flour and baking powder, stir gently into butter mixture. Add apple, slicing in with a knife, until gently combined.

Step 3Spread into tin. Combine nuts, sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over batter. Press on lightly with the palm of the hand.

Step 4Bake in a 180C oven for 20-25 minutes until golden and firm to touch.

Step 5Serve warm with cream or ice-cream, or cold as a slice.

Recipe Notes
Do not cook this in a non stick pan. The apples mix with the Teflon and will turn the apples blue.
