The best tasting tofu dish in the world! It's simple to make and most ingredients are available in Asian supermarkets these days, including the sauces.
Ingredients
- 200 g firm tofu
- 1 daikon radish grated
- 1 spring onion
- 1 tsp bonito instant soup
- 100 g cornflour
- 4 tbs vegetable oil
Sauce
- 1/2 cup dashi stock
- 1/2 tbs mirin
- 1/2 tbs light soy sauce
Method
-
Step 1Wrap tofu in paper towels and squeeze out excess water.
-
Step 2Cut the tofu into small squares. Finely slice green parts of spring onion only.
-
Step 3Coat the tofu cubes with cornflour evenly.
-
Step 4Deep fry the tofu in pre-heated oil at 170C for about 4 minutes or until light golden brown.
-
Step 5Drain the deep fried tofu on paper towels and then place them in serving bowls.
-
Step 6In a saucepan, bring the ingredients for the sauce to a boil. Pour the hot sauce over the tofu.
-
Step 7Top each tofu with grated radish, bonito flakes and spring onions.
Recipe Notes
You can buy the dashi ready made from Asian food stores. Leftover sachets of bonito flakes are great as salad dressings and with vegetables. I've served this to many conservative eaters and it has always been praised, never had leftovers!
