Ingredients

  • 300g spirals pasta shapes
  • 40g butter
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 tbs plain flour
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vegetable stock powder
  • 1 pinch pepper *to taste
  • 2 cup cheddar cheese coarsely grated
  • 425g canned tuna flaked
  • 200g mushrooms sliced
  • 1/4 cup dried breadcrumbs

Method

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 180C.
  • Step 2
    Boil pasta according to packet directions.

    While pasta is cooking, melt butter in a medium saucepan and sauté onion for several minutes until soft.
  • Step 4
    Stir in flour and cook, stirring, for one minute.
  • Step 5
    Remove from heat and gradually stir in milk.
  • Step 6
    Heat until mixture simmers and thickens. Remove from heat, stir in stock powder and pepper and then 1½ cups of cheese.
  • Step 7
    Combine cheese sauce, tuna, drained pasta and mushrooms and place in a large casserole dish.
  • Step 8
    Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and remaining ½ cup cheese.
  • Step 9
    Bake for 25-30 minutes or until browned on top.
Recipe Notes

I use tuna in oil for this as I think it enhances the flavour but it should work with any type.
