A delicious dessert served with sweetened cream.
Ingredients
- 1 kg apple cooked
- 1 lemon
- 100 g caster sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon sugar
- 100 g butter
- 225 g white dried breadcrumbs
- 1 tbs icing sugar
- 1/2 cup toasted almonds
Method

Step 1Peel, core and slice apples.

Step 2Cook apples in a covered saucepan with approximately 6 tablespoons of water.

Step 3When the apples are soft add the grated rind of the lemon, 4 tablespoons of lemon juice, sugar and cinnamon.

Step 4Beat the apple mixture well to puree apples.

Step 5Melt butter in a saucepan, stir in breadcrumbs until butter is completely absorbed.

Step 6Grease and line the bottom of a 15-18 cm cake tin.

Step 7Press one third of the breadcrumb mixture into base of tin, add half of the apple mixture, layer another third of the breadcrumbs, the remaining apple and end with remaining breadcrumbs.

Step 8Bake for 30 minutes at 180C. Cool in tin before removing.

Step 9When completely cooled, sift icing sugar over the top and decorate with toasted almonds.
