A tasty compote that can be used as a dessert or for breakfast with hot porridge.
Ingredients
- 2 tsp orange zested
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbs orange juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 (pods) cardamom
- 3 cloves garlic
- 6 pear cored cored firm peeled quartered
Method

Step 1Place zest, water, orange juice, sugar, cranberries, cinnamon stick, cardamom pod and cloves in a medium saucepan. Bring to the boil and simmer, uncovered, for 5-10 minutes until syrupy.

Step 2Add pears, cover and simmer for 3-5 minutes or until just tender.

Step 3Cool and remove cinnamon stick, cardamom pod and cloves before serving.

Recipe Notes
Best served at room temperature. Accompany with your favourite topping. I like plain yoghurt as the tang of the yoghurt complements the pears beautifully.
