Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 kg potato
  • 225 g cheddar cheese grated
  • 225 g creme fraiche
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 salt and pepper *to taste
  • 2 garlic clove crushed

Method

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 200C and grease a large ovenproof dish.
  • Step 2
    Peel potatoes and slice thinly to about 5mm thick, rinse slices in water and dry on paper towel.
  • Step 3
    In a bowl mix the crushed garlic, salt, pepper, milk, egg and creme fraiche.
  • Step 4
    Place a layer of potato slices in dish, spoon over a lttle of the egg/creme fraiche mixture and scatter with a little grated cheese.
  • Step 5
    Continue to build layers until all potato used. Top with egg mixture and grated cheese.
  • Step 6
    Bake for about 1 hour or until potatoes are tender.

  • 1 baking dish
Recipe Notes
Serve with a big green salad, if you like cheese you can grate a little more over the top about 5 minutes before serving. It goes all bubbly and melty, yum. You could replace the creme fraiche with double cream.
