A quick, easy and cheap recipe - ideal for those on the run or when friends drop in.
Ingredients
- 1 onion diced
- 1 garlic clove crushed
- 1 pinch fresh basil
- 850 g canned whole tomatoes peeled
- 850 g water
- 1 tbs tomato paste
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbs olive oil
Method

Step 1Lightly saute onions with oil until soft.

Step 2Add garlic, tomato paste and stir through.

Step 3Add tomatoes, basil, water, sugar, salt and pepper.

Step 4Cover and cook on low to medium heat until sauce thickens.

Step 5In the meantime boil salted water add pasta of choice.

Step 6Toss pasta with sauce and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
Recipe Notes
To vary this recipe – before adding the canned tomatoes add sliced mushrooms, peeled small diced eggplant or sliced zucchini or all of them. If doing this add an extra can of peeled tomatoes to the recipe.
