A lovely alternative to the traditional apple crumble.
Ingredients
- 8 apples peeled
- 1 1/4 cups maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup toasted walnuts chopped
- 0.6 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 6 tbs salted butter diced
Method

Step 1Preheat oven to 190C.

Step 2Cut apple into 8 wedges each. Put apple wedges into dish and toss together with the maple syrup, the nutmeg and cinnamon.

Step 3Scatter the walnuts over top.

Step 4Stir together the brown sugar and flour, add butter and rub in, add oats.

Step 5Sprinkle over apples.

Step 6Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is crisp.

Step 7Serve with ice-cream, cream or custard.
Recipe Notes
I left my toasted walnuts whole, a lovely crunchy surprise.
