What are tapas?

From marinated olives, to pungent sheep’s milk cheeses and spicy chorizo sausage, these tasty bites are dishes that is meant to be shared. Serve a number of plates to your guests and let them nibble away. Offer a nice red wine, sherry or Spanish beer alongside for the perfect accompaniment.

Smalls bowls and cazuelas

Fill a number of small bowls, or Spanish terracotta cazuelas, with a selection of the following tapas to get your started:

  • Marinated olives
  • Roasted almonds
  • Mushrooms quickly sautéed in oil and garlic
  • Prawns cooked in oil, garlic and finished with chopped parsley

Mini tostadas

Toast round slices of crusty bread and spread them with either a smoky roasted capsicum dip or a dollop of garlic aioli. Top each toast with some of the following flavours:

  • Grilled or marinated anchovies or sardines
  • Marinated piquillo peppers
  • Wafer thin slices of cured ham
  • Marinated or oven roasted tomatoes
  • Slices of fresh goats cheese

Toothpicks

Secure tasty treats, such as cured ham wrapped around Manchego cheese, with toothpicks. Other great flavours include:

  • Anchovies wrapped around piquillo peppers
  • Olives stuffed with sun dried tomatoes
  • Chunks of fried chorizo sausage
  • Cured ham wrapped around melon
