What are tapas?
From marinated olives, to pungent sheep’s milk cheeses and spicy chorizo sausage, these tasty bites are dishes that is meant to be shared. Serve a number of plates to your guests and let them nibble away. Offer a nice red wine, sherry or Spanish beer alongside for the perfect accompaniment.
Smalls bowls and cazuelas
Fill a number of small bowls, or Spanish terracotta cazuelas, with a selection of the following tapas to get your started:
- Marinated olives
- Roasted almonds
- Mushrooms quickly sautéed in oil and garlic
- Prawns cooked in oil, garlic and finished with chopped parsley
Mini tostadas
Toast round slices of crusty bread and spread them with either a smoky roasted capsicum dip or a dollop of garlic aioli. Top each toast with some of the following flavours:
- Grilled or marinated anchovies or sardines
- Marinated piquillo peppers
- Wafer thin slices of cured ham
- Marinated or oven roasted tomatoes
- Slices of fresh goats cheese
Toothpicks
Secure tasty treats, such as cured ham wrapped around Manchego cheese, with toothpicks. Other great flavours include:
- Anchovies wrapped around piquillo peppers
- Olives stuffed with sun dried tomatoes
- Chunks of fried chorizo sausage
- Cured ham wrapped around melon
